Una Semana Casual

We have now been here 2 weeks, which is crazy because it feels like it’s been longer.

On Monday in class, we were assigned a 10 minute presentation on various photographs, to be presented on Tuesday. The catch? We could not have any notes to look at while presenting! It went well, I had to improvise some, but I learned all the vocab words I might’ve needed, like “hierba,” which means grass. I presented with another girl who happens to be named Madeline, lol. Our picture was hard to understand at first, because the two flags are not real. We went with a take on war and how it’s not always necessary and that people forget what they are fighting for (the flags not being real), etc.

Wednesday was just a 9-6 day at work. It was very productive and fun. Two of the people I contacted about coming to speak at our GCEC European Summit, responded! I set up two slot for them to skype with my boss to go over details of the event, so I hope it went well. I won’t know until Friday, because my boss will be out of the office today (Thursday) moving into her new apartment. She was very happy to have these potential speakers so I hope at least one worked out. The difficult part is we are still a start up company. Therefor, we don’t have a budget to fly all these speakers out to our event… hence the trouble getting them all. Everyday at EIE we get a free lunch made by a woman in the office. It is always really yummy and all the different workers in the office go downstairs and eat together. So far this is the time, aside from class, that I am surrounded by the most Spanish, and where I can practice it the most. Yesterday at lunch we had so much fun, talking about politics. We were all in a consensus, but had so many different ideas that led us there. It is tough because some people are speaking Spain Spanish, some Mexico Spanish, some had Spanish from Ecuador, and others from the Dominican Republic. When they all start to speak at once I get overwhelmed and my brain races at 100 mph., but it is fun. After work, some of the other people in the program met up at this one restaurant/bar that a few had been to already to try sangria made with white wine. It was so delicious, and for someone that likes white wine more than red (I am learning this as I go, and I do also like red don’t fret), this sangria was amazing. It even had cinnamon in it, and I love cinnamon.

Today was very dull at work since the boss was out, but it was okay. We got to mess around with Google Analytics a bit and see if anyone we are emailing is actually visiting our website. After work I just went back home and hung out. We had hamburgers for dinner, which was yummy, but our host mom literally cannot get over jamon!!! Not even the good jamon from Spain, literally lunch meat jamon. She put lunchmeat on top of our burger and Halle and I were so confused. The burger was great, she even had avocado slices for us. Strange, lazy, and tiring day.

Here are some pics from the week :
