El fin de semana (4)

What a spectacular weekend everybody!

Friday I went to work like usual, but for some reason today was give Madeline a millions tasks on Friday-day and I was there until 5:30 (I get off at 4:30 on Friday)! So I rewarded myself by going to Gran Via and buying a couple new outfits for the hot weather that has come early this year in Spain (but that’s none of my business). Then I went home and chilled with Halle at home because we had to wake up at 5 am!!

Saturday, as I said, we woke up at 5 am to make it to the train for Córdoba. Joke was on us because our professor told us an earlier time to make sure we weren’t late. It worked out in the group’s favor because people were late. However, Halle and I are always on time, and would have loved a little more sleep. Good news was we slept the whole train ride, haha. The train we took was much faster than the one we took to going hiking. We got to Córdoba in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The train went about 200+ mph. Cordoba was just as pretty and hot as I remembered. We walked around the city and then went for a tour in the old Mosque turned Cathedral. Originally the Romans controlled Cordoba, but then the Omeya family was fighting with the Abasi and the Abasi killed all of the Omeya except for the 15 year old son who escaped and went to Códoba. He convinced the people to let him be the ruler by claiming he was the true ruler. His dad was a descendant of the prophet Mohammad, and his mom was a Berber slave. This made him connected to two aspects of their culture. After they accepted him as their ruler, they built a magnificent mosque. Not all the Christians converted, but they had to pay higher taxes, so many did. It is breathtaking. Later around 1236 or 1238, I am not sure, it was reconquered and converted into a Cathedral.

We were then allowed to have free time until around 6 pm. Then there was the option to walk around with Bladi, our main professor, to see a few more plazas and get ice cream/gelato. Then we had dinner at 8:30. Our hotel was really nice, but had peculiar rooms haha. Our room was for three but it only had two headboards??

Sunday we just had breakfast and then went to the train station to head home. Not so fast, we actually had tickets for the next day!!! We debated staying the night, but people that don’t have a rigorous of an internship as me, needed to go to work in order to get enough credits for the trip. Therefore Bladi had to buy us all new tickets with the emergency fund. Our luck had not run dry though, and the only seats available were first class! What a treat! When we got back I was super tired so I didn’t do much but lounge around the apartment. This weekend was exceptionally fun.

Sarah is so god at making videos!! 🙂

  1. First class! Nice. This sounds like a great weekend. Spain has such a wonderful history. Love that you are getting to drink it all in.
