I am part of an email group that receives a poem each morning. I do not get a chance to read all the poems, depending on how my day is shaping up, but I do not miss many. Sorry to the poems I have missed, may you find me on your own one day. Of the poems I do read, some are more impactful than others. I have decided to share them with you all, if you feel inclined to look any up and see if they may give meaning to something in your heart as well.
1. Brujitas by Emma Trelles
2. Good Bones by Maggie Smith
3. The Triple Fool by John Dunne
4. The Lake Isle of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats
As you all know, I set a goal to read thirty books by thirty, so why not take you along for the ride? Like my father, I have started reading certain books in certain locations. Last year I got my library card here in Denver. That means I can now use the Libby app, which has opened the door and allowed my reading journey to take off. Unfortunately, this month I got too eager and tried to read too many books at once, and I am not as skilled in that as my father. I started reading five books, but only completed two this month.
1. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
2. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
3. The Burning God by R. F. Kuang
4. The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
5. The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut
1 and 2 I have completed. 3 and 4 I am 68% and 46% through them, respectively. 5 I had to return back to the library at only 10%. I was overly ambitious this month, and will try to keep it to my three books at a time limit: one physical by my bed, one physical on libby, and one audiobook on libby.
Project Hail Mary is the second sci-fi book I have read, perhaps ever. Don’t quote me. That and I Who Have Never Known Men last year are proving to me that I may be a sci-fi girly. I think The Sirens of Titan will be the final proof I need, and I will update you all with my thoughts next month. PHM is such an amazing book. I got in line for the audibook on libby because someone said the voice they do for one of the characters is a must listen. Rocky, said character, is someone that I would DIE for, so I gotta hear how they sound. Essentially, the book is told in both past and present, from the POV of a male science teacher turned astronaut on a mission to save the Sun, and in turn, save Earth. We spend the whole book knowing he goes into space, but we have to figure out how he ended up on the ship. Project Hail Mary is the project they undergo to try and save the sun. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend giving it a shot.
Rebecca is a book that I read for a lil book club with my Lubbock gal pals. Our final meeting will be Feb 4th, and then I will make a post about that experience, so I won’t explain too much about it here. Let’s just say…it’s a great story!
