It is the evening of Thursday, May the 18th. My roommate Halle and I just got back to the house (apartment) of our host mom and we are chilling and waiting around until dinner. Here is a recap of yesterday and today, leading up until now:
We woke up and had breakfast in the hotel and let me tell you, Spaniards have a unique breakfast.
Then our host families came and picked us up. We all went to move into our homes for the trip and hang out until we had to go to school. Halle and I have our own rooms. We live on Calle de Alcalá. I have a small balcony that faces out to the street.
Our school is about 9 metro stops away, but it is on the same line, which makes it easy to get to. Our line is good because it’s not very crowded compared to the others.
We had a couple orientation classes for the program, and then lunch at the dorm cafeteria. It was okay, a paella, but it wasn’t my fav, so I will need to try it again when we go to the beach for our off weekend. After lunch we had another orientation presentation and then we were free to go until 7:30. Our classes and school are in the Moncloa area of Madrid. Guy’s dorm was in Moncloa for the past semester, so after class I went to meet up with him to see him for a couple hours before 7:30. I have not seen him [Guy is my boyfriend] since spring break so it was most likely my favorite part of the day.
After that, I went back to the house (We got our metro passes yesterday so now we are good to go). When I got home, we went on our neighborhood walks with our “Señoras” to look around the place we will be living for the next six weeks, with the other students and their señoras that live in the same area. We stopped into a restaurant and had a light dinner and then went back for the night.
Today we woke up around 8 and had breakfast at home before going to class. We took the metro to class today and had more orientations and presentations. At lunch some other girls in the program went with me to grab a quick bite.
We could also eat at the school but it was more expensive or the same as going to a restaurant. Then we went back and had our first “class” for the semester. We are taking two classes while here. The one today was an Intro to Macroeconomics. All of our classes and jobs (which we start Monday) are in Spanish. We then went to get tapas before dinner. Now Halle and I are home waiting for dinner and I believe we are just staying in tonight.
Saludos,
Madeline
