El fin de semana (2)

5/26/17-5/28/17

Friday was just a normal day. I went to work and then relaxed at home. We bought bus tickets to Granada for only 26 euros roundtrip which I think is a great deal. Then we went and had indian food and it was the first meal I’ve had here that was packed with flavor. The Spanish do not like spicy food, and I never really considered myself someone that needs spicy food, but I guess I do. Quite a relaxing day to end the work week.

Saturday we were up bright and early because we were going to a winery called Bodegas Martúe in Castilla La Mancha. It was really nice and quaint. It was family run, and they also sold cheese that was made next door. We arrived and had a few minutes to take some pictures and look around on our own. Then we had a short tour and walked around to look at the grapes and the cellar before trying one of their white wines and one of their red wines. After that we had lunch in the house. We had a gazpacho, a main course, and dessert. The main course was chicken and rice and the dessert was chocolate crepes or strawberries and sugar, so you can all guess what I had 🙂 After we ate we rode back to Madrid in our bus which took about an hour and a half. Then Halle and I were in and out of sleep for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Sunday we got up even earlier than the 8:30 am we got up at yesterday. At 7:30 we started to get ready for our day in the mountains outside of Madrid. We took a train/merto an hour or so outside of Madrid to Cercedilla. We had breakfast at a cafe and then proceeded to go the wrong way and missed the trail we had planned to take. We ended up finding the end of the trail, and then just went along the path in reverse. Camino del agua was nice because it was under trees mostly, and therefor not very hot. This hike was wild, haha. It was a beautiful trail that sort of reminded me of Colorado. There were cows on the trail, which is what made this hike the most memorable. For some reason a cow was right beside the main path, and I guess we spooked her because she turned and mooed like she was going to chase us so we all ran for our lives, but still I am unsure as to whether the cow actually chased us or not. All I know is that it was hilarious. Then we got lost again, so we walked all the way back, but ended up taking a scenic route which was quite beautiful. Then we got to the train station, but for some reason it was all deserted and resembled what an apocalyptic world may be like. Turns out that the next train was 45 minutes away so no one was there yet. Once we got home I was completely exhausted, but at the same time starving. What I haven’t mentioned yet is that I have a sight cold, so my nose is clogged up. For this reason, and the fact that a girl who went hiking with us was craving it, we went back to the indian restaurant from Friday, for dinner. The funny thing is, we ran into one of the other students that had dinner with us at the indian restaurant last time, also having dinner there with one of his friends from high school. We all ended up having dinner together and it was really fun.

Also, Happy birthday dad!!

Here are some pictures from the winery and from hiking:
