As promised, I am back. Let’s jump right in!
The day began around 06:00 when we walked to the Poblado Park, where we soon feared I had fallen for an elaborate scam. None of the tour guides seemed to have our booking. Thankfully they called their office and found it. I booked through a third party so there was some miscommunication between them and the tour group. Apparently they had expected to pick us up at a different pickup spot. Strange, but it was fine. We did however end up being in the bilingual bus, which was tricky but good practice for us. Once we took off it was a smooth day of exploring.
We stopped halfway and had empanadas, pan con queso, y pastel de pollo for breakfast. Then we continued on to Guatapé. What an adorable place! We want to buy a house and boat and move down here.
First thing was first, we had to climb La Piedra. It is a giant rock that looks like a nut. Around 700 steps later the view was worth it. After looking out over the city, we made our way to the water and stopped for lunch. The classic bandeja paisa. After lunch, we hopped on a pontoon of sorts and slowly got a tour of all the little islands. So nice, and there was a cool breeze if you leaned back a bit over the edge. We were able to see some different angles of the Rock and saw some special fancy solar power island. Still unsure what that was about. We also got an improv singing duo. They were great and they sang about all the passengers. Lastly, we explored the town itself. Cute as hell. Super colorful.
Our tour guide was very funny and nonchalant about the whole thing. He barely knew english, but was also a jokester. After walking around for a bit we got back on the bus and headed back for Medellín. It took longer than it did on the way due to traffic. Mer and I were able to read, but Kate just sat and vibed. I was not motion sick surprisingly, after a scary start, but Kate was. When we finally got back, we were caught in the rain for our twenty minute walk home. We keep getting caught in the rain! It was around 18:00 when we returned, but we were too tired to meet up with Becky and Julia for dinner/going out. We haven’t really had an itch to go out here yet, which is interesting.
Instead of going out, we went to a fun spot for dinner. Four months old, but they are cranking out delicious pizza pies! We tried three different ones and my fav was the pepperoni, jalapeno, cheese, honey, and something I forgot, one, the most. <– If you can figure that sentence out, cheers. We also got some wine, but for me I went back to my Spanish roots /j and had tinto de verano. Afterwards we each got gelato from there as well. We loved the Taro flavor! The potentially yet unconfirmed owner was so attentive. He helped us with our gelato samples and gave us some spicy oil that he thought we would like to dip our pizza in. He was right.
Oh yeah, the name of this place is Montes.
A great day was had!
Toodles 🙂
Toodles to you, too. That sounds like a word “we” used in High School. They say everything comes around & goes around
…..makes sense, believe it or not.
