Today’s post will be a bit hard, for you see, my most devoted follower, my most trusted reader, my dad has passed away. Luckily, we were able to speak in person on Sunday about these two books and how much I enjoyed them. If you know anything about my father, you know he was an avid reader. I am back in West Texas now and I have already found two books he was reading that are in different rooms around the house. He would annotate and educate and he loved to read anything anyone would recommend. His instagram was filled with selfies, comic strips, computer screen article clips, and book reviews that were succinct and sweet. Well dad, wherever you are tuning in from, I want to tell you I love you, I miss you, and I will be reading until the day I die just, like, you. For all the bickering and laughing and crying we did, we did it with love in our hearts. You walked this Earth with a can do attitude, showed empathy to everyone, and taught me how to be an honest and joyful person. I know your advice to me would be simple, and it’s true even in these devastating days: Even death is part of life. It’s a catch 22, dad. Perhaps the ultimate one.

I was not able to read the Service95 book this month because I am still in line for it on libby. I think it’s a newer book because I also looked at buying it and the paperback isn’t even released yet, only the hardcover. I am 28th in line, and I started 44th so hopefully I can get a copy next month but surely by the end of the year I can make it up.

As for Ship of Magic, Hobb effortlessly introduces a new story to us that captures your attention even faster than The Farseer Trilogy. We’ve been given multiple POVs this time around, and the characters are well developed and some honestly get on my nerve. It’s great noticing little things that link back to the previous trilogy, and wondering how it’s all going to come together one day, if at all. Highly recommend this book and I am already excited to see what happens next!

The other book I read this October was one for the season. Monstrilio is a horror novel, translated from Spanish to English. I was obsessed with this story and the characters. It’s split between the four main characters, each one getting a quarter of the book. While graphic and gory, it’s still a heartfelt representation of a family dealing with their grief. Highly recommend this book.

Thanks for listening ❤

  1. Madeline,

I have followed your blog ever since your first trip away from the USA. Why? I know we don’t know eachother personally. Because of your dear ole dad. What a guy! He was a dear friend to me and when he was working around my house, he spoke of you often. I, too, am a reader and lover of books and words. I’m amazed that you wrote today and I am so glad you did. I loved reading your thoughts as I usually do, but today they were a profound comfort to me. In your loss, you have comforted me. Whew! I’m praying for you and maybe one day I’ll be able to do something to comfort you. With love and admiration,

    Krista Bumstead

    1. Just knowing that my words have touched you means so much to me. My dad would love to know you were keeping up with my blog, and it makes me smile to know as well. We’ll just keep on reading and he’ll never truly be gone. Thank you for the comment, truly!
